News Flashes
By Bruce Brown
It Can't Be Anyone We Know
Been over two years
Seems much longer
So many maimed
So many dead
…And continuing fears
The news flash flashes
Another suicide bomber and another bus destroyed
The seats, the metal, the windows, the driver and the passengers
It can't be anyone we know
Quick calls to loved ones
Wanting to insure we're all safe
Cell phone lines are dead
It can't be anyone we know
Continuing about our daily routine
The back of our minds filled with grief
We continue to work -it's almost automatic
It can't be anyone we know
Office chatter turns black and blue
Another attack, seven dead, how many wounded
The number will grow by day's end
It can't be anyone we know
Been over two years
Seems much longer
So many maimed
So many dead
…And continuing fears

I've Already Lived This War…
Headlines blare and scare and give no rest
Whether bombs fall or whether we don our masks
It makes no difference -
I've already lived this war a half dozen times before
Making contingency plans should it happen
We'll go abroad or maybe we'll stay or maybe we'll take a short vacation
Maybe only you'll go and take the kids
After all its not their fault and what are they to blame and why should they suffer
Parks will be turned into mass cemeteries
A place to bury the hundreds gassed once the bombs fall
Must remember to update our masks
Are there enough to go around -some say yes and some say no
Analysts debate: does he have the capability
Analysts debate: will he fire at us
Analysts debate: will we respond
Analysts debate, debate and debate
Headlines blare and scare and give no rest
Whether bombs fall or whether we don our masks
It makes no difference -
I've already lived this war a half dozen times before
Standing in line to update our masks
I've postponed this chore a half dozen time before
Is the war far off or is it near
The banter is full of bravado and fear
Going out with friends for a night of fun
Discussions turn to terrorists and pending war
We theorize and intellectualize and can't escape the pressures
Over coffee and cake we determine whether our days are numbered
We need not worry; Patriots and Arrows are stationed again
Papers are full of doom and gloom
Advising code words for incoming
And where to get inoculations
Headlines blare and scare and give no rest
Whether bombs fall or whether we don our masks
It makes no difference -
I've already lived this war a half dozen times before
Bruce made Aliyah from Canada in 1989 and words as a purchasing professional
in the hi-tech industry. An inspired writer; Bruce had a
book published -called 'Greeting Cards'- which satirizes the Israeli
character.
